A Barton-under-Needwood dog grooming salon is bringing a touch of style to the region’s pooches.

The Asian Fusion style of trimming has become popular among owners across the globe.

And now Lucy Perkins is hoping the craze will catch on in Lichfield.

“Asian Fusion is a really fun style of grooming,” she said. “It brings the cute and crazy styles of Japan, Korea and Taiwan and fuses that together with the traditional English style of trimming.

“The Asian styles have a reputation for being a bit extreme and out there which is mostly just a step too far for the average English customer, so the fusion style was developed to enable us to use their creative techniques and marry that into what we would normally do in the salon.

“It gets away from breed standards for the dogs, often owners want something a bit different but they are not sure exactly what to ask for or if a groomer would be open to doing a trim that’s totally different to what is expected.”

The style is usually for small dogs with curly or long coats but can be adapted.

“There are lots of styles to choose from and we have found it is really bringing the fun and excitement back into the grooming industry, which has probably felt a little restrictive to clients in the past,” Lucy added. “A Westie is trimmed like a Westie and there is no variation on offer.

“Now everything has changed and we are really excited about that and hope to get lots of clients who want to try something new.

“We know it can also be a bit scary for some people to change what they’ve always had done, so we understand some people may want to start off with small changes until they see how amazing and cute their dog can look.

“No-one who has had Asian Fusion styling has ever gone back to regular styles so far.”
