# Barton United pay the price for second half collapse against Alcester

Seven was not the lucky number for Barton United as they saw their run of six wins on the bounce brought to an abrupt end.

The Black Swans went into the game in confident mood, despite having a number of players unavailable. In the first half they showed their ability as they provided a resolute response to pressure from Alcester Town.

But the deadline was broken in the 25th minute when a penalty was converted after Barton stopper Jake Fogarty was adjudged to have hauled down an Alcester man.

United didn’t let the setback get to them and pulled level 10 minutes leter when Peter Martin won and converted a penalty.

The second period started brightly for Barton and they were unlucky not to take the lead.

But what followed was a 15 minute spell to forget as Alcester netted four goals – the first three all coming from long balls, before a poor back pass allowed Jake Gifford to net his fourth of the game.

There was still time for things to get worst though, as Alcester added two more before the final whistle to secure a 7-1 triumph.

Barton boss Greg Smith said: “We got what we deserved. All credit to Alcester, they played some nice football and were deadly in front of goal.

“But what upsets me was the attitude of the players as the game slipped away. We lost all fight and discipline, that has to be addressed. ”

Barton now have another week off before going to Badsey for another test against promotion hopefuls.
