Barton United’s title ambitions took another hit as they went down 1-0 at FC Stratford.

A 72nd minute goal for James Bailey was enough to secure all three points for the hosts, who are struggling at the wrong end of Midland Football Combination Division Two.

The result leaves Barton fifth in the table, eight points adrift of leaders Paget Rangers – but United have played one game more than the front-runners.

And they will know that anything less than a victory against Northfield Town on Saturday (February 8) will extinguish any lasting hopes of bridging the gap.
