A bid has been made to ensure a building in Burntwood is not lost to the community.

The Chase Terrace Methodist Church was [put up for sale in December for £150,000](https://www.bootandson.co.uk/en-uk/property/to/buy-chase-terrace-methodist-church-princess-street-chase-terrace-ws7/1692/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) after declining numbers of worshippers in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic saw it close as a place of worship.

But [a petition](https://www.change.org/p/save-the-chase-terrace-methodist-church-for-community-use?utm%5Fsource=share%5Fpetition&utm%5Fmedium=custom%5Furl&recruited%5Fby%5Fid=c2554220-c8e5-012f-ff98-4040aa777426) was launched over the potential loss of a community building in the area.

As a result, councillors [unanimously voted last month](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/burntwood-councillors-say-former-church-should-be-designated-as-a-community-asset/) to designate it as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) – a move which bought time for local organisations to put together a plan to buy the site.

Burntwood Town Council has now confirmed it has lodged a bid to buy the building.

Cllr Sue Woodward, leader of the authority, said councillors were keen to see community facilities retained wherever possible.

More than 800 people have signed the online and physical petition calling for the former church to be saved as a public facility.

Cllr Woodward said:

> “The petition supporting our application to designate this building as an Asset of Community Value is getting more and more support so, if you haven’t already, please get signing and sharing.”
