CHASETOWN were unable to hold on to an early lead as they fell to a home defeat against league leaders Bootle.

The Scholars made the breakthrough in the ninth minute when Oliver Finney's ball across the box was slotted home by Ash Fallon.

Bootle sent a free-kick over the bar as they went in search of a leveller, while Chasetown almost doubled their lead when an effort clipped the upright.

The equaliser eventually came ten minutes before the interval though when the Scholars' defence failed to clear their lines and Jack McGowan was on hand to tuck the ball home.

Matt Hearsey almost restored the lead moments later when his curling effort just cleared the crossbar.

Bootle got themselves in front ten minutes after the restart as Ben Hodkinson netted from close range.

Chasetown went close to levelling just after the hour mark when Dylan Thomas broke through on goal, but couldn't get the better of Joe Mason in the visiting goal.

The game was put beyond doubt 10 minutes from time when Hodkinson netted from the penalty spot to make it 3-1.
