# Boss hoping Lichfield City can make their mark in new division

LICHFIELD City manager Ivor Green says is delighted to be playing in step four – but wants his players to be able to make their mark in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

The Trade Tyre Community Stadium side managed to gain promotion after winning the Midland Football League Premier Division.

This season will be the club’s first ever season playing at this level after two promotions in five years.

Green said he was pleased to see his squad getting the chance to shine at a higher level:

> “Last year was clearly the best season the club has ever had – it was a target that we had set because we’d had a third place finish, then second place, so the target was to try and win it.

> “We’ve had the same squad now for a number of years. Most of these players have played for us for a while.  
>  
> “I want to make sure that they enjoy every challenge.”

Lichfield began their pre-season campaign against National League side Tamworth.

Green said he was pleased to have a tough test to set the levels high for his squad:

> “Saturday was a great example of what we’re trying to b.

> “We’ve got to adapt massively really from what we’ve been used to, so we’ve been working hard on that in pre-season.

> “We believe we’ve got the right players to do that and Saturday was a great start for us in going down that path. “

Despite the league allocations meaning Lichfield City will miss out on local derbies with the likes of Chasetown and Stafford Rangers, Green believes the Midland Division will still provide plenty of mouthwatering clashes.

> “The good thing is there are a few local games in there – we’ve got Boldmere St Michaels and Sutton Coldfield.

> “I’m based in Nuneaton so there’s a few games up the road from me such as Bedworth and Rugby.

> “Obviously I know a lot of the people at the various clubs, so it’s going to be great for myself coming up against these teams that have always been big clubs for me as well.

> “When I took over at Lichfield we were step six, but the majority of these clubs we’ll be coming up against were already at step four so we only met them in friendly games in the past.

> “To be able to compete with these clubs in the league is brilliant and it’s exciting.”

Lichfield City’s pre-season schedule continues this evening (8th July) when they welcome Lutterworth Town. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
