# Burglar jailed for Lichfield raids

A burglar who raided homes in Lichfield has been jailed for three and a half years.

Police estimate that during his burglary spree, Nathan Hayes, aged 25, stole more than £60,000 worth of property – including a collection of rare toy cars.

Hayes, of Longnuke Road, Northfield, Birmingham, admitted three offences of burglary and asked for a further 15 to be taken into consideration when he appeared at Hereford Crown Court this week.

He admitted burglaries at Richard Cooper Road, Bracken Close and Cricket Lane in Lichfield as well as raids at Hewitt Close, Fradley, two addresses in Dovecote Road, Burton and Sutton Road in Mile Oak.

He stole thousands of pounds worth of property including cars, household electrical goods and part of a collection of rare Corgi cars from the 1950s. None of the property was recovered.

Detective Sergeant Martin Fitzpatrick of Trent Valley CID explained how Hayes was caught after the stolen car he was driving was tracked by police as it headed towards Lichfield on the A38.

“The Citroen four wheel drive car had been stolen from Shenstone and was one of only 300 in the West Midlands area,” said Det Sergeant Fitzpatrick. “It had been fitted with false number plates from a similar vehicle but was still spotted by police using vehicle identity technology.

“This individual was responsible for causing a great deal of distress and upset for law abiding householders and we are pleased to have been able to get him off the streets for a considerable length of time.”
