A YOUNG cyclist has completed a 1,000-mile bike ride challenge to help support future track riders.

Jamie Chance completed the final stages of his effort, which began in May, as he travelled from Cannock to Penkridge before heading back into his hometown of Burntwood.

The 11-year-old has raised £2,150 to buy helmets for future users of a proposed pump track in the town.

His mother, Rachel Stackhouse, said:

> "Cycling over 26 miles on the final day of his challenge, he even had a puncture on the last mile, so he ran with his bike in tow.
>
> "He started the challenge at the beginning of May and has given up his time to put as much effort and determination in as possible to help others and challenge himself as well.
>
> "I don't think he realises what an achievement he has completed. He has cycled the equivalent length of the UK at 11\. We are incredibly proud of him.
>
> "He has raised money to buy helmets for the future Burntwood pump track – and he really can't wait to know when it is going to be built, like many others in Burntwood and the wider community."
