# Burntwood councillors raise concerns over day centre charges

Labour councillors in Burntwood are asking people to air their views over proposals to increase charges for day centres and lunch clubs.

A consultation has been launched by Staffordshire County Council over proposals to add travel costs and increase hot meal charges for some services.

But councillors in Burntwood believe that such a move would lead to means-testing of people using services across the county.

Cllr Steve Norman said:

> “Our Conservative and Independent/Lib Dem County Councillors are keeping their heads down on this and so we are offering to help as District and Town councillors. People can also contact us [via our website](http://councillorstevennorman.ws7.co.uk/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).

> “Staffordshire County Council wants to introduce the cost of travel to day centres for the first time and almost double the price of hot meals. Despite Conservative and Lib Dem criticism of means-tested benefits, Staffordshire now wants to means-test the services older and vulnerable people have enjoyed previously at a flat rate cost.

> “The official consultation ends on December 31 but many people who are not currently using the services don’t realise what it will mean to them if they do need help in the next few years.”

People can speak to Summerfield and Chasetown Ward Labour councillors this Saturday (December 4) at Burntwood Library from 10am to 11am.
