A Burntwood man has been prosecuted for running a caravan site without a licence.

Jim Horton, 68 of Rake Hill in Burntwood, admitted in court that he had run the site since 1996 without a licence at the A & J Vehicles Industrial Estate, New Road.

Despite a visit from Lichfield District Council in 2007 informing him he required a licence, he continued to do so.

Mr Horton was fined the maximum penalty of £2,500 plus costs of £2,248 and a contribution to victim support of £15 – a total of £4,763.

Councillor Ian Pritchard, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Environmental Protection, said:

> “Handing down the maximum fine shows how seriously operating a caravan site without a licence is taken. We are really pleased with the result, and know it will send out a clear message that all businesses need to be licensed properly.”
