A Burntwood wakeboarder is celebrating after winning a virtual competition.

With coronavirus continuing to disrupt traditional events, Wakeboard UK decided to host an alternative contest.

Riders aged between 8 and 54 took part in the competition by filming their flips, grabs and spins and submitting them for judging.

Charlie Lloyd, from Burntwood, won the boys competition in the Malibu Virtual Wake Open.

It was the latest success for the Erasmus Darwin Academy student following his [call up to the 2020 British Wakeboard team](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/burntwood-schoolboy-called-up-to-team-gb-wakeboarding-squad/).

Jeremy Nevill, from Wakeboard UK, said the event had seen competitors from across the Europe and the USA taking part.

> “We couldn’t see a path to organising a safe and exciting UK National Championships in 2020 in this unprecedented situation so we decided to look at how we might run a competition that didn’t require large groups of riders and officials gathering at one location.
>
> “The result was to offer a competition where wakeboarders could film a five-trick run behind their own choice of boat and at their own choice of lake, with strict rules in place.
>
> “The film was then submitted online to be judged against the other riders in their age or ability category.
