# Burntwood teenager’s fundraising campaign smashes £3million barrier

A Burntwood teenager has seen his fundraising efforts smash through the £3million barrier.

Stephen Sutton, who has incurable cancer, has become known around the world after celebrities began to champion his cause.

He had [hoped to raise £1million](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2014/04/23/dying-burntwood-teenagers-fundraising-fight-reaches-1million/) for the Teenage Cancer Trust, but feared it might not happen after he was taken into hospital when his condition deteriorated.

Comedian Jason Manford, who had previously met the 19-year-old at a Teenage Cancer Trust event, [mobilised an army of well-wishers on social media](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2014/04/23/comedian-describes-honour-of-meeting-fundraising-burntwood-teen/) to help him hit the target.

But the campaign has kept on growing and growing with more than 120,000 donations helping Stephen raise more than £3million for the charity.

In [a column for the Mirror](http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/jason-manford-stephen-sutton-teenage-3466730?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk#.U10iPCtl4gQ.twitter), Jason wrote: “Stephen is one of those rare humans who focuses on the amazing things that life has given him so far – on his family and friends, on the random crazy madcap year he has had raising money for a worthy cause.

“Well Stephen, you have achieved more in your short life than I and most people will achieve in a lifetime.

“You are a credit to your family, to Staffordshire, to Britain – and an absolute credit to humanity itself.”
