# Call for 4×4 drivers to help Whittington charity give care during the winter months

A Whittington charity is urging 4×4 drivers to help ensure patients living with serious illnesses get the care they need during the winter months.

St Giles Hospice supports people with cancer and other conditions.

Lindsey Walker, the charity’s transport co-ordinator, said that they needed help to ensure staff can reach patients, whatever the weather: “As forecasters are predicting a hard winter this year, we need to make sure we are prepared.

“We need our staff to be able to get to work if the weather gets bad, whether that’s at one of our hospice facilities or the home of a patient or client within the local community – so we’re calling for people with 4×4 vehicles to sign up to be a volunteer driver, ferrying staff to work or clients’ homes in severe conditions.

“They’ll have the satisfaction of knowing they’re part of helping to keep our vital services going this winter.”

All volunteers will need a clean driving licence and to check with their insurers. Mileage can be reimbursed for any journeys they make on behalf of the hospice.
