HAMMERWICH were forced to settle for a draw after being frustrated by Old Wulfrunians Tettenhall.

The Hammers were sent in to bat first on home soil and suffered an early shock when they lost the wicket of Tom Wright in the opening exchanges.

But that would be a rare highlight for the visitors with the ball as John Jennings made 72 before being bowled by Lovepreet Ganger, while Callum Brodrick raced to 152 in 131 balls before he was stumped with the score on 244-3.

A 52 from Scott Elstone and a 40 from Imran Qadir pushed the total to 328-3 in 50 overs.

It was always going to be a tough test of an Old Wulfrunians side who sit bottom of the South Staffordshire County League Premier Division with just one win all season.

But they made a solid start, reaching 61 before Scott Elstone took the first wicket when he dismissed Deepak Chouhan.

The scoreboard had tickets round to 116 before John Jennings trapped Amit John lbw – and another wait for the third wicket of the innings followed as Andy Malkin stumped Kevin Renecke.

The Old Wulfrunians resistance took a hit as quick wickets followed to leave them on 202-8 with three overs to play.

But despite their best efforts, the Hammers couldn't claim the vital wickets as Ashish Gupta and Manpreet Paurh saw out the innings with the visitors reaching 218-8 to earn them six points, while their hosts took 17 points.

Jennings was the pick of the Hammerwich bowlers with 3-61.
