The chair of Lichfield District Council has revealed why he decided to quit the Conservative group.

Cllr Derick Cross’ decision to switch to become an independent member was confirmed on the local authority’s website [yesterday](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/conservative-chair-of-lichfield-district-council-switches-to-become-independent-councillor/) (2nd October).

He has now told *Lichfield Live* that, while he is “unable” to go into the full details at the current time, his reasons were due to issues with the party locally.

His decision means the controlling Tory group has seen its numbers reduced to 22 of the 47 seats.
