People in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to make a will and raise money for charity at the same time.

Make a Will Fortnight is taking place between October 4 and 15 and will see solicitors across the region giving people the chance to prepare a standard will.

But instead of the usual charge of £75 and £100, participating companies have agreed to waive their fees during the course of the event in exchange for a voluntary donation to St Giles Hospice.

Helen Relihan, head of fundraising for St Giles Hospice, said:

> “Everyone wants to ensure their loved ones are looked after when they are gone, and yet a significant proportion of people are still not in possession of a valid will. We are offering a unique opportunity to reduce the cost of having a will prepared professionally – all we ask is that, in return, participants donate what they can afford to help local people with cancer and other serious illnesses.
>
> “Following the success of our Make a Will events in previous years, we have decided to extend the service to a fortnight in 2010 to give more people the chance to take advantage of this important service.”

All proceeds from Make a Will Fortnight will go towards funding the care St Giles Hospice provides to its patients and their families.
