FORMER boss Scott Dundas came back to haunt Chasetown on a disappointing evening at The Scholars Ground.

Visitors Hanley Town broke the deadlock after 16 minutes following an uneventful opening quarter of an hour. A goalmouth scramble ended with the ball falling to Jack van der Laan who made no mistake with his finish.

Chasetown’s first spell of sustained pressure came soon after, but just as the Scholars looked to threaten, Matt Hearsey was unable to bring the ball under control inside the box.

Further chances came for the home side as Kyle Moseley threaded the ball through for Tak Sambizi, but his attempt with an outstretched leg was smothered by Hanley goalkeeper Lucas Knight.

After some good build-up play from Chasetown, Hearsey found himself with the ball at his feet inside the area, but his drilled effort was superbly pushed wide by Knight.

Towards the close of the half, the Scholars twice threatened from Luke Chapman free kicks delivered from the wing, but Kevin Monteiro and then Joel Kettle both headed over.

The home side started the second half positively, but shots from Chapman and Hearsey failed to trouble Knight.

The visitors doubled their advantage on 58 minutes when Lewis Porter converted from the spot after Oli Hayward had fouled former Scholar Devante Ramsey.

It could have been worse for Chasetown when Jacob Twyford broke through one-on-one, but he was denied by goalkeeper Anthony Nunez.

Minutes later and the Scholars thought they were level as substitute Nathan Blissett had the ball in the back of the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Chasetown continued to threaten, but Knight held firm in the Hanley goal, producing fine saves to deny Hearsey and debutant Dylan Thomas.

The Scholars did pull one back on 81 minutes. Ethan Patterson had initially rattled the crossbar during a scramble in the area before the ball was recycled into the danger zone, where Patterson headed home.

But Hanley restored their two-goal advantage five minutes later, with Twyford sending a free kick into the far corner from the edge of the box.

Twyford struck again with a minute of normal time remaining before Nathan Blissett headed home a consolation for Chasetown in injury time.
