CHASETOWN suffered defeat in their final pre-season encounter at Rushall Olympic.

It marked the only loss in a successful friendly schedule for Mark Swann’s men.

Ty Webster went close to opening the scoring for the Scholars after 18 minutes but his shot was straight at home keeper

It was Rushall who claimed the opening goal a few minutes later through Osaze Okuonghae.

Webster went close to a leveller when his powerful strike rattled the crossbar.

Curtis Pond had to be alert before the break to keep the deficit at one goal when he denied Rushall in a one-on-one encounter.

Chasetown’s penalty appeals were waved away on the hour mark when Matt Funge went down in the box – and the home side then rubbed salt into the wound by doubling their lead with a well-taken free-kick from Jaden Charles.

The deficit was almost halved 15 minutes from time when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball strike the crossbar and then get cleared off the line as the Rushall back line held firm.

Jordan Evans then saw his shot whistle just over the top while Dan Clarkson powered one wide of the target.

But the final word went to Rushall eight minutes from time when they made it 3-0 through Mitch Botfield.
