MANAGERLESS Chasetown were beaten 2-1 at Atherton Collieries.

The Scholars – who saw manager Jamie Hawkins leave the club just hours before the fixture – were ahead in the first half through Joey Butlin.

But two goals in two minutes early in the second period saw the home side turn things around to claim the win.

Chasetown had an early chance when Tyrell Skeen-Hamilton crossed for Butlin, but he could only send his header wide of the target.

Atherton showed their attacking intent to force two good saves from Curtis Pond to ensure the scoreline remained level.

But the Scholars put their managerial woes behind them just before the interval when a corner saw Butlin find the net.

Any hope of recording a win on their travels were soon dashed though when Chinedu Uche scored five minutes into the second half.

The game was completely turned around moments later when Ben Rydel beat Pond to make it 2-1.

Jack Langston saw his corner hit the crossbar as Chasetown looked to find a leveller, but it wasn’t to be as the Scholars returned home empty-handed.
