It was the visitors who upset the formbook midway through the first half when they took the lead after Aaron Moxham stole in at the far post to net a free header.

Chasetown’s Simon Brown fizzed a low shot at goal which was blocked for a corner, before Paul Sullivan chipped goalwards and clipped the top of the Goole crossbar.

Jono Gould was a whisker away from a headed equaliser from a Rhys Thompson cross as the home side continued to press.

On the verge of the break, visiting keeper Dan Waring made a point blank save to deny Gould’s right foot volley.

Chasetown finally drew level on the hour when Alex Warley dived in on substitute Nick Turton and conceded a penalty which James Dance confidently converted.

Bob Johnson’s long range effort was superbly pushed aside by Scholars keeper John Bateman on a rare attack for the East Yorkshire side midway through the second period.

Chasetown were reduced to ten men when Henry Eze was sent off for what the referee deemed a late challenge in the midfield.

The visitors almost stole all three points when Bateman denied Tony Mackie with a great late save.
