Dave Egan and Dean Perrow share a champagne moment after sealing promotion

Chasetown FC’s goal hero was destined to score the winning goal, according to midfielder Dave Egan.

Perrow shrugged off [a season hit by injury](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2009/08/17/chasetown-fc-suffer-dean-perrow-injury-blow/) to come off the bench and fire the Scholars to promotion in their [play-off final against Glapwell](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2010/05/03/chasetown-fc-1-glapwell-fc-0/).

And while his goalscoring instinct clearly caught the visiting defence on the hop, it didn’t surprise his team-mates.

Egan explained:

> “It was such an amazing feeling when Deano scored that goal, but if you spoke to any of the players before the game most people were predicting that would happen. It was always going to be a tight and tense game but it had it written all over it that Perrow was going to come off the bench to send us up after the frustrating season he has had.
>
> “He is a goal machine and I’m chuffed to bits for him, because he’s a top lad. What most people don’t know about him is that he has worked really, really hard to get himself fit again after that horrible injury.”

Until Perrow found the net with six minutes remaining, Chasetown had enjoyed the best of a scrappy affair.

But despite the tension around the ground, Egan admits he always felt the game was there to be won by the Scholars.

He said:

> “I always felt we would win. I couldn’t see them breaking us down so it was important we never panicked, because I felt we’d take one of our chances.
>
> “But all credit to Glapwell, they’ve had a great season and they are also very hard to break down. It was the two best defences in the league so was never going to be a goal fest.”
