Chasetown Reserves four game unbeaten run continued with a win against a much-improved Heather St John’s side.

The Scholars were at the races from the off as on four minutes Chris Horton headed just over from a Jamie Hawkins corner.

It didn’t take long for the opening goal of the game when on 11 minutes strong hold up play by Jack Scandrett allowed him to put Rene Williams through down the right. Williams outpaced the visiting defence before calmly slotting the ball under the advancing keeper and into the net for his first goal in Chasetown colours.

Chasetown began to control the game with Jamie Hawkins pulling the strings in midfield and captain Chris Lewis marshalling his defence to stifle the few attacks from the visitors.

Chris Horton went close again on 22 minutes when he headed over a Hawkins corner.

A Scandrett shot from a Williams right wing cross was deflected for a corner on 35 minutes. And from the resulting corner referee Beddoes awarded a penalty kick to the home side after seeing a push. Scandrett fired the kick into the bottom corner of the Heather net to make it 2-0 to the Scholars.

Chasetown finished the half well on top with Daniel Rock sending a 35 yard piledriver straight into the arms of grateful Heather keeper Belcher.

Complacency seemed to set in with the home side at the start of the second half, with Heather substitute Quinn shooting narrowly wide. Then the same player rattled the home crossbar from 20 yards with centre forward Holgate shooting over from the rebound.

The lively Quinn went close again for the visitors on 50 minutes as Heather began to dominate proceedings. Drew Aiton replaced Tom Ivers on the hour, as the home side tried to stem the continuous wave of attacks from the away side.

Corey Currithers and then Rock forced Heather keeper Belcher into action as the home side began to regain the initiative.

However, on 68 minutes, it was the unlucky Quinn who struck the Chasetown crossbar from 25 yards for the second time in the match.

The victory was sealed on 84 minutes when a 40 yard pass from full back Rock found the head of substitute Jordan Tams who guided his header past the visiting keeper and into the net for 3-0.

Tams could have had a second when fired high and wide after a low 30 yard drive from Hawkins was pushed out by Belcher.

Heather striker Holgate pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 89th minute.

But the scoring was finally completed in injury time when a lofted through ball from Aiton was missed by Rowell in the Heather defence and Scandrett placed the ball past the keeper to make it 4-1 to the home side.

It’s cup football next for the Scholars Reserves. On Tuesday (November 3) night they entertain AFC Wombourne in the JW Hunt Cup Round 1 with a 7.45pm kick off and next Saturday (November 7) they visit Wolstanton United Reserves in the Staffs FA Challenge Cup Round 2, kick off at 1.30pm.
