Chasetown FC have announced their first new signing ahead of the 2011-12 Evo-Stik Premier League season with the capture of former Burton Albion star Darren Stride.

The versatile 35-year-old utility player played for the Brewers right from the beginning of his football career, progressing to become captain and also break the record for the most appearances for the club with 654, appearing in all positions on the field.

He was released by Burton after 17 years with the club and spent last season at Alfreton Town before agreeing to join the Scholars for the new campaign.

Manager Charlie Blakemore said:

> “I am delighted to have signed Darren. He has a wealth of experience and is a winner. He has had a fantastic career at Burton and last season at Alfreton and in my view still has a good few years in him at this level. He is a great signing for us.
>
> “We played our first season at the Evo-Stik Northern Premier league level last season and his experience and know how will really complement the existing squad. He is a leader and a great pro and this will rub off on the rest of our players.
>
> “It will be a tougher league this year and I am pleased to have signed up virtually all of last season’s squad. We all know a little more about what is needed at this level now. We know it will be tough and we are all looking forward to the challenge.
>
> “I am still looking to strengthen in certain areas and hope to have a few more new signings before we kick off pre season.”
