Chasetown FC fell to their third consecutive league defeat thanks to two goals either side of half-time from Goole.

The Scholars had started well enough and took the lead with a well-worked goal which saw Richard Davies in acres of space when he was picked out with a pass and slotted home from 12 yards out – his first league goal since his return to the club.

At the other end, Chasetown looked largely in control of the game, with skipper Chris Slater becoming the fourth man in the Scholars history to reach 350 league games.

However, a minute either side of the interval the game turned on its head.

Chasetown had tried a counter-attack after defending a corner, but Nick Wellecomme’s flick to try and instigate the quick break fell to a Goole player instead, from which the home side advanced and Billy Law picked his spot with a low shot placed into the bottom corner.

Goole even had time to have the ball in the net again before half-time but the referee disallowed the effort for a foul during the build-up.

Immediately after the interval, the hosts found themselves with three strikers against two Chasetown defenders and Andy Gascoigne had a simple pass left and right to set up a chance at goal, but instead went alone and fired a shot goalwards that John Bateman got his hands to but was unable to keep out.

Goole perhaps looked more likely to add to the scoreline, although Chasetown did have two glorious chances to equalise. First, Leon Miles headed straight at goalkeeper Peter Fotko from a corner, and then in the final minutes Nathan Waite was through but couldn’t get the ball under control to get a shot away and instead tried to tee up a team-mate with a pass that went astray.
