Chasetown FC’s old nemesis Rushall Olympic once again proved their undoing in a competitive pre-season encounter.

But despite losing 1-0 to a late winner, Scholars boss Craig Harris admitted he pleased with much of the team’s performance against higher league opposition.

The first half was an extremely competitive affair with some good, strong tackles proving that any Chasetown versus Rushall encounter is likely to be a friendly!

But, all were fair and both sides played out a very competitive first half.

Visiting keeper Lewis Solly was the busier of the two keepers as The Scholars created a number of chances – the best of which was a double save and block to twice deny Paul Sullivan as a fierce shot was cleared straight back to the home forward and his second effort was beaten away.

Sullivan flashed an effort wide of Solly but inches wide of the post in the second half as Chasetown tried to gain the advantage over their neighbours.

At the death – perhaps predictably with the Pics winning the last ten competitive matches between the two sides – Zak Martin directed a header across goalkeeper Danny Watson inside the far post.

Chasetown almost grabbed a dramatic equaliser. Substitute Avun Jephcott was on just long enough to whip in a delightful left footed cross and Theo Robinson timed his late run to perfection but headed the chance straight at Solly – anywhere else would have seen the ball go in.

**Chasetown:** Danny Watson, Alex Forde (Jack Farmer), Louis Keenan, Grant Beckett (Avun Jephcott), Tesfa Robinson, Richard Teesdale (Chris Slater), Simon Brown (Theo Robinson), Danny Bragoli, Gary Hay (Nick Wellecomme), Paul Sullivan (Danny Smith), Andy Westwood (Lee Butler). Subs not used: Jud Ellis, Ryan Price.
