CHASETOWN Women produced a five-star performance against Stafford Town to progress to the semi-final of the Vase.

The Scholars carved out the first chance of the afternoon when some good battling by Katie Holmes saw her win two challenges and find Kaz Clough who fired just wide.

But they weren’t to be denied the opener the next time Clough caught a sight of goal as she latched onto Chantai Ahmed’s through ball to slot past the visiting keeper.

Stafford sent a half-volley over the bar as they looked for a leveller, but the majority of chances were falling Chasetown’s way with Tash Hughes rattling the bar.

The second goal went to the Scholars when Connie Wooton linked up with Clough to create an opening for Hughes who fired home via the post.

Chasetown started the second half brightly, with Hughes renewing her acquaintance with the woodwork as her strike hit the bar once more.

The third goal arrived when Chloe East-Goodman’s searching through ball found Wootton who powered home.

East-Goodman then got her own name on the scoresheet when she rifled into the roof of the net to make it 4-0.

The scoring wasn’t done yet for the home side though as Lessi Birkett’s ball was met by Kyrie Ball who saw her initial shot saved – but she made no mistake by netting the rebound.

Stafford grabbed a consolation at the other end when Laura Lindsey’s wayward backpass found Courtney Mace who bundled the ball home.
