The civic party at the National Memorial Arboretum

A civic party led by the chairman of Lichfield District Council has visited the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.District civics tour the National Memorial Arboretum on Tuesday 4 October 2011

The group was welcomed by Cllr Bernard Derrick and Commander Charles Bagot Jewitt, who gave a presentation on the site – from its conception to the present day and beyond.

They were taken by land train around the arboretum, ending at the National Armed Forces Memorial.

Cllr Derrick said: “The importance of the National Memorial Arboretum is growing year by year.

“The frequent visits by members of the royal family and dignitaries from overseas is testament to this. I think everyone who comes here is moved, and thousands do so throughout the year.

“The day was fascinating, and, on behalf of my fellow civics, I would like to thank everyone at the NMA for making it such a special tour.”
