# Civil War comes to life for students at a Lichfield school

The Civil War demonstration at Nether Stowe School

Students at a Lichfield school have taken a leap into the past.

As part of the Year 8 curriculum, Nether Stowe School pupils received a fun-filled and educational experience given by Civil War expert Dave Lord from the Sealed Knot.

The students were told various key bits of information to help with their topic of the Civil War. They were shown a range of weapons, outfits and artefacts during the two hour visit.

Most of the year group took part, with many of them getting the chance to handle the weapons and artefacts and dress in the attire that would have been worn at the time.

Dave Lord, AKA Richard Ruckwood, gave a detailed and humorous talk about the life of the soldiers who fought and their roles when in battle.

The character of Rick Ruckwood, a Parliamentarian soldier, came dressed in full uniform. He demonstrated the weapons and spoke about how they were used and their jobs in battle. Students were encouraged to get involved and get in character by dressing up as people from the past.

Year 8 students were really pleased with the visit and were really lucky to have this chance to be involved with genuine things from the past.
