SUPPORTERS were treated to a thrilling comeback as Lichfield played out a 27-27 draw with Stourbridge.

The first half was not sprinkled with wonderful rugby, although Stourbridge took their two opportunities in this period very cleverly.

Charlie Milner opened up with a straight penalty after two minutes and this was cancelled out by the astute Jack Teague for the visitors.

Neither side could take a hold on the game and the only bright moments were two long range tries for Stourbridge. Firstly, the speedy Dan Rundle skilfully chipped and chased his way to the line and this was followed by a successful hack on and chase by Teague, who also converted both.

Right on half time, Lichfield mounted their first real pressure and captain Kieran Reynolds snapped up a loose ball to score. Milner converted to cut the deficit to 17-10.

There were fleeting moments early on in the second half to think the home side’s momentum would be imposing, but Stourbridge fought back and Teague grabbed a good team try before Connor Adams earned them a bonus point with try four.

It was becoming a bad day at the office for Lichfield, but from nowhere the tide changed when a big overlap appeared on the left and Paul Maxwell-Keys sprinted over for his tenth of the campaign.

It was Stourbridge now who were on the back foot – and their defence could not keep Rhys Davies out after the forwards had softened them up, Milner converting.

With three minutes to go, another attack down the left and Davies scored in the corner with aplomb.

After recent heroics with the boot, Milner could not convert this for the lead, his effort hitting the post.

Lichfield continued to press with lots of multiple phase possession and yet had to settle for a draw.
