# Local community projects set to be awarded share of £780,000 funding pot

MORE than £780,000 could be awarded to local community projects under plans due to be approved next week.

Lichfield District Council is set to award 14 schemes a share of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding.

The largest proposed awards include £151,000 for The Friary School’s cricket pavilion, £108,400 for floodlights at Lichfield Rugby Club and two £100,000 grants for Hopwas Community Park and improvements to Shenstone Playing Fields.

CIL is charged to developers when new housing is built. The money is then reinvested back into the community to support projects in the area.

This year, four types of infrastructure projects were eligible for funding, including healthcare, transport, sports facilities and education.

Despite feedback from residents identifying healthcare provision as a priority, no bids in this round or the previous round of funding were made.

The projects receiving funding include:

- £100,000 to Wigginton and Hopwas Parish council towards Hopwas Community Park
- £7,500 to Lichfield Rugby Union Football Club Ltd towards inclusive access
- £13,000 to Lichfield Squash Club towards courts refurbishment project
- £11,500 to Lichfield Rugby Union Football Club Ltd towards the delivery of a borehole and pitch maintenance sustainability
- £55,480 to Lichfield City Football Club towards car park improvements and pedestrian safety and accessibility
- £100,000 to Shenstone Playing Fields towards play area refurbishment
- £45,000 to Shenstone Playing Fields towards the changing room refurbishment
- £108,400 to Lichfield Rugby Union Football Club Ltd towards floodlights
- £34,584 to Elford Cricket Club towards the replacement of outdoor practice nets
- £80,000 to Drayton Bassett Parish Council towards a BMX track and sports playing fields
- £151,000 to The Friary School towards cricket pavilion improvements
- £35,000 to Shenstone Parish Council towards the Calder bridge replacement
- £27,500 to Tamworth Cricket Hockey and Squash Club Limited towards a squash renovation project
- £12,082 to The Hub at St Mary’s towards IT and organisational infrastructure.

Council leaders are set to approve the funding at their next meeting on Monday (13th July).
