THE Conservatives have questioned Reform UK’s celebration of its 100 days in charge at Staffordshire County Council.

The party swept to power back in May after ousting the Tories and promising an alternative for local residents.

Cllr Ian Cooper, leader of the county council, said Reform UK had already shown it was a party of [“responsibility, competence and professionalism”](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/staffordshire-county-council-leader-celebrates-100-days-since-reform-uk-swept-to-power/).

He said:

> “We have spent the first 100 days listening, learning and shaping the future direction of Staffordshire County Council – demonstrating responsibility, competence and professionalism.
>
> “We are not a party of protest, but a party ready to do the hard work of governing.”

But Conservative opposition group leader Cllr Philip White said the new administration had overseen a “do nothing” council.

He said:

> “During the election campaign, we heard Nigel Farage talking about how Reform would be bringing a revolution in local government, cutting waste, fixing the roads and improving the situation – but the reality is that in Staffordshire, after 100 days, nothing has happened.
>
> “There have been no major changes. They’ve made some minor announcements, released some sound bites and spent money on new political posts, but the Reform leadership has generally just been continuing the policies that they were left by the Conservatives.
>
> “Their one big decision has been to have a three-month break from new road repairs in our major towns, storing up problems with potholes and extra roadworks this winter.
>
> “The worrying thing about that is that the challenges facing local government have not gone away. We still have the same funding gap on adult social care and special education, and we’re still facing the biggest reorganisation of local government in 50 years.
>
> “These challenges need to be faced, but Reform are asleep at the wheel running a “do nothing” council.
>
> “We hope they use their long summer break to have a reset and come up with a plan to move things forwards.”
