The Black Horse Inn in Edingale has been closed since 2012 and the owner was [seeking retrospective planning permission](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2013/05/24/last-orders-could-be-permanently-called-on-disused-pub-near-lichfield/) for the changes.

But Lichfield District Council planners have now rejected the scheme.

A statement to the local authority in support of the conversion said the building was not viable as a pub.

“The Black Horse had an unsustainable recent history,” the statement explained. “In the last 20 years the business had at least six landlords, none of whom was able to forge a viable future.

“The feedback received from current owners and landlords in the industry was that the business was not attractive due to poor location and lack of trade.”

However, the building has also been [listed as an Asset of Community Value](http://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/info/200188/community%5Frights%5Fbids%5Fassets%5Fand%5Fmore/1652/community%5Frights%5Fhow%5Fto%5Fnominate%5For%5Fbid%5Ffor%5Fan%5Fasset/9?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) by Lichfield District Council following an application by Edingale Parish Council.

This means that if the building were to be offered for sale, groups would have a maximum of six months to prepare a bid to buy it.

Full details of the planning application can be seen [on Lichfield District Council’s planning website](http://planning.lichfielddc.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=MDTVL1JEA2000&ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).
