Council bosses have confirmed that potholes are an “on-going challenge” – despite a blitz in recent months.

An extra £500,000 was invested into repairs by Staffordshire County Council after the winter weather caused a number of roads to deteriorate.

A number of sites in Lichfield and Burntwood have been reported, including [a 3ft-deep pothole on St Luke’s Road](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2013/04/22/giant-pothole-opens-up-in-burntwood-road/) which was fixed by dedicated highways crews.

But despite the blitz on repairs, the leader of Staffordshire County Council, Philip Atkins, admitted that there is still plenty of work to do, despite crews fixing 4,500 potholes between February and April.

“Our highways crews have been doing a fantastic job tackling as many potholes and they can, as quickly as they can,” said Cllr Atkins.

“The bad winter really did take its toll on our roads so we decided to increase investment to help tackle the potholes causing the most problems.

“While we have increased resources and the number of teams we have out there, it is still an on- going challenge to get around a county as vast as ours and I would ask people to bear with our crews we carry out these repairs.”
