A councillor says plans she hopes McDonald’s will be the “first of many” new businesses to come to Burntwood.

The fast food chain have submitted a planning application to Lichfield District Council for a new drive-through to replace the empty store and car park which used to house Tesco Express and Kwik Save at Sankey’s Corner.

Cllr Helen Fisher, who is deputy leader of Burntwood Town Council and a member of the cabinet on Lichfield District Council, said the move was a positive sign:

“We’re aware that Burntwood needs more businesses in the town centre,” she said. “That is something we’re working on with Lichfield District Council.

“McDonald’s have put in a planning application for a restaurant and I hope they’ll be one of the first of many new businesses to come to Burntwood.”

The new restaurant is expected to provide more than 65 full and part-time jobs if it gets the go-ahead.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “The proposed building will be situated within the car park of the former retail unit.

“The restaurant will offer customers a choice of eating within the restaurant or taking away from either the counter or from the drive thru lane.

“The restaurant itself will provide 100 seats in a contemporary environment.”
