A Conservative councillor has pleaded with both sides of the political divide to work together for the good of local residents.

The ruling Tory group at Burntwood Town Council has clashed with its Labour rivals over a number of issues, including [a recent decision to raise council tax](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2016/02/05/council-tax-rise-for-burntwood-residents-is-approved/) by more than a third and the make-up of the 2016/17 budget.

But Cllr Doug Pullen called for greater co-operation between the two warring parties.

“We are being aspirational and going for a gold standard in the Local Council Awards,” he said. “To achieve this we need to show excellence in engaging with communities and be innovative.

“All councillors were elected to to serve the residents of Burntwood, so we need to make sure we’re doing all we can to look for co-operation within this council and with partner authorities.

“We should be striving to be servants the residents of the area deserve.”

Cllr Pullen’s comments came after the controlling Conservative group opted to increase the council tax bill for local residents.

“I support what we as Conservatives are doing,” Cllr Pullen added. “But I do want us to make sure we foster a spirit of co-operation.”
