A COUNCILLOR has welcomed a commitment to a masterplan exercise for Burntwood.

Lichfield District Council’s initial study will explore and identify opportunities for investment, growth and development as part of the wider 2050 strategy.

The first phase will take around three months and be followed by the creation of an action plan for Burntwood.

Cllr Sue Woodward, leader of the Labour opposition group at the council, said she was pleased to see action at last after a number of years of lobbying.

> “Burntwood has suffered for years from a lack of a properly planned strategy for development and investment, ad hoc decisions without any overarching vision.

> “It has meant that decisions have been piecemeal, with some of the changes we’ve seen actually preventing more appropriate uses in the long term.

> “After campaigning for a Burntwood masterplan for years, Labour councillors at Lichfield District Council finally got agreement to invest in this along the lines of the masterplan for Lichfield city.
