Councillors have approved plans to purchase a new vehicle and employ a part-time worker to help fix issues in Burntwood.

A meeting of Burntwood Town Council this week approved the launch of the Burntwood Response and Repair Team scheme.

It will see a fully-electric van purchased by the council and a part-time member of staff taken on to work with voluntary groups and make simple repairs to equipment such as bus shelters.

Cllr Sue Woodward, leader of Burntwood Town Council, said:

> “We are pleased to be delivering some solid improvements to our town in the very near future.
>
> “Local people will be seeing our electric micro-van out and about regularly.”

The new initiative will also ensure grit bins are full and signage around the town is kept clean.

The two-year scheme is expected to cost £45,000, which will be taken from the authority’s financial reserves.

The town council’s chief officer Steve Lightfoot said:

> “I’m delighted that the council has agreed to make this investment, which will improve our capacity to respond to residents’ concerns.”

The scheme is expected to be up and running this Autumn.
