Councillors have called on the Government’s Transport Secretary to provide more information on part of the proposed HS2 route near Lichfield.

The scheme was discussed at a meeting of Lichfield City Council last week.

Councillors had already raised issues regarding some elements of the line, but had supported the idea of high speed rail.

However, a new suggestion for a connection from HS2 to the existing Birmingham to Derby line via a link near the National Memorial Arboretum has “concerned” members of the City Council.

In a letter to Transport Secretary Justine Greening, Town Clerk Peter Young said: “The speculation as to whether there will be a link and where it will go is causing great local concern.

“I was asked to write to you for information on whether such a link is likely and if so the probable location for such a link.”

The letter comes in the wake of an [appeal by Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2011/11/21/lichfield-mp-urges-transport-secretary-to-think-again-on-hs2/) for the Government to “think again” on HS2.

The Government is expected to make a decision on whether to push ahead with high speed rail in December.
