Councillors are set to discuss a plan to introduce a 20mph speed limit on a stretch of road in Lichfield.

The proposal would see vehicles travelling slower on the roundabout connecting Stowe Road, St Chads Road, Partridge Croft and Stowe Street.

The limit will be discussed at a meeting of Lichfield City Council on Thursday (April 7).

Cllr David Dundas, Conservative representative for Chadsmead ward, has put forward the speed limit reduction.

A report to the planning committee meeting said: “At present the limit is 30mph and traffic entering from Stowe Road at this speed or more usually exits into Stowe Street at the same speed into a sharp left hand blind bend. A few metres on, quite a lot of traffic joins Stowe Street from St Michael’s Road.

“During school term time there is a lollipop-controlled pedestrian crossing near the St Michael’s Road junction.”

If councillors back the proposals for a 20mph limit, the plan would be sent forward to Staffordshire County Council for a final decision.
