The museum displaying the massive collection of Anglo-Saxon gold found near Lichfield attracted more than 10,000 visitors in its first weekend.

According to a [report in The Birmingham Post](http://www.birminghampost.net/news/west-midlands-news/2009/09/28/10-000-visit-anglo-saxon-treasure-hoard-at-birmingham-museum-65233-24794177/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk), visitors queued for two hours to catch a glimpse of some of the 1,500 artefacts which have been hailed as one of the most important archaeological discoveries ever made in the UK.

The items were on display at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery after being discovered by Burntwood man Terry Herbert earlier this year.

The display in Birmingham will run until October 13 when the collection will move to the British Museum for further investigations.

A permanent home for the items is still to be decided but the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, along with [Stoke-on-Trent City Council](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2009/09/27/stoke-on-trent-keen-to-take-historic-gold-found-near-lichfield/), has already declared an interest in putting a bid together to keep The Staffordshire Hoard in the region.
