A Lichfield councillor has moved to clarify the make-up of the local council for residents.

Cllr David Leytham

Conservative David Leytham was one of a number of new faces to join the District Council at the local elections.

But with a City Council as well, Cllr Leytham, admits the situation can be confusing for residents.

He said:

> “The political structure in Lichfield takes some understanding, with two councils – the District Council and the City Council. The District Council covers a huge area, with 26 political wards stretching from Stonnall to Fazeley. The City Council covers a much smaller area, made up the ‘inner ring’ of the Curborough, Chadsmead, Boley Park, Stowe, St Johns and Leomansley wards.
>
> “To add to the mix these City wards are also District wards, which is why residents who live in these wards were asked to vote for two sets of councillors. Those who voted in the City election in Curborough elected four Conservative councillors and one Labour councillor. Brian and Norma Bacon were elected to the City Council and Brian now has the honour of being the City’s Mayor for the next 12 months. Norma is his Lady Mayoress.
>
> ” The District Council’s responsibilities are many and wide ranging whereas the City Council’s are generally those of a Parish Council. The [District Council website](http://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) gives contact details and committee responsibilities for all its councillors and you will see that Brian, Norma and I have representation on the following committees, boards, panels or forums:
>
> “From all this you can see we should be able to offer first hand help on a range of issues. If you need help or advice on any matter that falls within the District Council’s area of responsibility please contact Brian, Norma or me. If your concerns are over a matter that the City Council has responsibility for please contact Brian or Norma.
>
> “We are here to help those who live on the Curborough ward and to take part in the decision making processes that go on across the District.”
