# Decision to block housing development in Burntwood has been validated, councillor says

A COUNCILLOR says a decision not to call in plans for a housing development in Burntwood "validates" the move to block planning permission for the scheme.

Bloor Homes saw efforts to build more than 200 homes on land at Coulter Lane rejected by Lichfield District Council.

It followed a community campaign and petition signed by local residents.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has now confirmed it will not intervene in the decision, meaning the refusal notice issued by the district council can now be formally issued.

Cllr Andrew Clissett, Staffordshire County Council representative for Burntwood North, said he was pleased with the news – but added that locals would be ready to fight any appeal launched by the developer:

> "This decision validates the firm stance taken by our planning committee and community.

> "Decisions about Burntwood's green belt, school safety and road infrastructure belong at the local level.

> "If Bloor Homes appeals, our united team of councillors is ready. Our stance extends to any other speculative green belt developments in and around Burntwood.

> "Going forward, we will vigorously defend our green belt, infrastructure and community against all similar applications.

> "We have prepared a joint petition requesting the Secretary of State to recover any future appeal for ministerial determination.

> "We will continue standing shoulder to shoulder with our residents, the Burntwood Action Group, and local schools to protect our town."
