THE UK's first memorial to veterans and Armed Forces personnel who have lost their lives to suicide has been dedicated.

The National Memorial Arboretum hosted a ceremony at the Elysium memorial to mark the occasion.

The stone sculpture at the heart of the memorial – named The Weary Hero – was escorted from Yorkshire by hundreds of motorbikes forming a guard of honour earlier in the summer.

A spokesperson for the National Memorial Arboretum said:

> "The Elysium Memorial Foundation was set up by Edward Mackenzie to encourage a wider national conversation around Armed Forces and veterans’ mental health, and to make sure that stories of courage, commitment and humanity are preserved and shared.
>
> "Following a five-year fundraising campaign, The Elysium Memorial pays tribute to all the men and women from The Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force who have died by suicide after honourably serving their country.
>
> "The memorial offers a contemplative space, offering families, friends and colleagues a special place to hold their loved ones in their thoughts, honour their service and reflect together as one."
