# Dramatic finish sees Lichfield City FC book Staffs Vase final spot

Lichfield City FC have made it through to the final of the Staffs Vase after a nailbiting penalty shootout.

Gary Birch’s men will face Sporting Khalsa in the final after a close encounter against Abbey Hulton in the semi final.

Things looked to be going to plan when Adam Wood opened the scoring for Lichfield in the first half.

But after Downes and Rose both saw good chances go begging, a sucker punch equaliser came from a corner.

Abbey Hulton then had a penalty appeal turned down before half time as the game began to open up.

Both sides saw chances come and go in the second period, before Liam Holt struck what appeared to be the killer blow with an extra time free kick.

Holt went close to putting the game beyond doubt with another free kick before Abbey Hulton levelled with two minutes remaining in extra time.

Rose missed a penalty as it looked as though Lichfield would pay for missed chances, but Clough saved to keep City in the game.

And a miss for Abbey Hulton means boss Birch will have the chance to pick up silverware in his first season in charge.
