# Dream comes true as care home resident gets up close with elephants

A DREAM came true for a Burntwood care home resident when she got to see elephants up close.

Sally Hall is obsessed by the animals and has numerous trinkets, jewellery and pictures of them in her room at Hammerwich Hall Care Home on Burntwood Road.

When staff asked residents to add items on their wish tree, the 83-year-old requested the chance to be up close with creatures – and her dream came true when she and four of her friends went on a trip to Chester Zoo, where she was wowed by the Asian elephants. L

Sally said:

> “It took my breath away to see these beautiful elephants standing just a few meters away.

> “It’s been my dearest wish to see one again in person, as the last time I went to the zoo was almost 50 years ago.

> “It was so special and very emotional for me. I’m so grateful my wish was picked to be granted – it was an unforgettable day.”

As well as elephants Anjan, Indali and Maya, Sally and her friends – Janet Poyner, 92, Jean Clarke, 95, Annette Ford, 84, and Audrey Richardson, 93 – also saw the lions, jaguars, flamingos and penguins.

Hammerwich Hall’s wellbeing co-ordinator, Paulina Darwin, who has been helping residents to fulfil their wishes through the caring ‘wish tree’ initiative, said:

> “It was just magical to see Sally’s face light up when we got to the elephant enclosure – all of us were really moved.

> “We know how much she loves elephants, so it felt so special to help her fulfil her wish.  
>  
> “It goes to show that it’s never too late to make your dreams come true.”
