# Ella Delderfield's double helps Lichfield teach students a lesson

LICHFIELD Hockey Club's women got the better of Loughborough University 3rds with an Ella Delderfield double helping to secure a 2-1 victory.

The tough away day saw the city women match the students from the off in a close first quarter.

The Lichfield backline and new goalkeeper Laura Seager held firm as the hosts dominated possession.

But the second quarter started with a bang when Delderfield won a penalty stroke after being fouled when taking a shot on goal, which she calmly converted.

Loughborough reacted quickly and grabbed an equaliser with a rocket reverse-stick strike into the bottom-left corner.

After an encouraging half-time team talk, the visitors continued to match the students for intensity and pace, still staving off many attacks but also getting more luck at the other end.

After a goalless third quarter, Lichfield pushed in the final phase, winning another string of short corners. A routine was broken down, but the visitors maintained possession and a shot on target hit a Loughborough body on the line, resulting in the second penalty stroke of the game. Delderfield again stepped up to take it and confidently slotted it into the bottom corner with eight minutes left.

The hosts pushed for another leveller and should have got it, but an open goal was somehow missed in the dying moments.
