# Endurance event near Lichfield provides extreme test for runners

Hundreds of athletes will be toughing it out for an endurance challenge near Lichfield.

The Catton Hall Estate will again play host to the Xtreme Challenge adventure race on Sunday (February 9).

The event – organised by city company KP Events – will see runners tackle a 10km run, packed with 60 obstacles, including icy water features, electric fences and smoke bombs.

Competitors celebrate completing the Xtreme Challenge race

Kevin Wilson, from KP Events, said: “This is more than just a gruelling race, it’s truly extreme.

“The guys and girls who take this on are beyond tough – no showers, no changing, you turn up with steely determination in your eyes and hours of training in the locker – then you pit yourself against your own self doubt and the elements with other like minded people.

“Anyone who takes it on gets our utmost respect.”

The event is [open for online registrations](http://www.kpevents.net/enter-an-event?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk), although willing racers are able to turn up on the day to compete. Entry fee is £20 for club-affiliated runners, £22 for non-affiliated.

Ben Flynn was one of those who took on the challenge last year and said would-be participants needed to be made of tough stuff.

“The Xtreme Challenge is so much more than simply trying to come in the top ten – it’s about taking on and overcoming a personal challenge,” he explained.

“The event is so tough, so extreme in its conditions and obstacles that it really is a feat to complete it, but when you cross the finish line with the other brave souls you feel as if you are top of the world – and ready for a hot bath!”
