A [Facebook group](http://www.facebook.com//group.php?gid=62575044222&ref=nf#/group.php?gid=62575044222) has been set up in protest at the plans to build a traditional mosque in Lichfield.

As revealed [exclusively by The Lichfield Blog](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2009/04/01/mp-warns-against-plan-for-traditional-mosque-in-lichfield/comment-page-1/#comment-474) earlier this week, local politicians have been approached regarding the building of a mosque complete with dome, minaret and audible calls to prayer.

Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant has said that he felt the plans were “inappropriate” for a heritage city such as Lichfield and now a group on the social networking site Facebook has echoed his thoughts.

One member of the group said:

> “Our little beautiful city will be wrecked with an awful great big thing like that here.”

Another posted added:

> “There is no way we will have a mosque overshadow our beautiful cathedral city.”

And another member of the group claimed Lichfield’s traditional feel would be at risk if a mosque were to be built.

> “I’ve been all over this world came back to Lichfield – it’s one of the last unspoilt bastions of Englishness. I don’t object to a mosque, but I do object to the location.”

However other members of the group have questioned the motives of those who are against the proposed mosque.

One poster said:

> “This group is pathetic. Are you scared of other cultures? You have churches in Lichfield, why not have mosques?”
