The NHS says Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are leading the way in the latest Covid-19 vaccination programme.

In the five weeks since the booster scheme began, more than 180,000 eligible local residents have taken up their jab – more than any other region in the Midlands.

Dr Lorna Clarson, deputy chief medical officer for the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board, said:

> “Our vaccination programme continues to provide vital protection to local people. Keeping people safe is our priority so if you’re eligible we encourage you to have your Covid-19 and flu jabs if you haven’t done so already.
>
> “Covid-19 is still circulating in the community and some people are becoming seriously unwell, and flu can be a really nasty illness for some people and can lead to hospital admission. However, the risk of becoming seriously unwell with Covid-19 or flu is hugely reduced by vaccination.
>
> “Even if you have previously had a vaccination or been ill with flu or Covid-19 before, immunity fades over time and these viruses change each year, so it is important you top up your protection.
>
> “The NHS will invite eligible people for their vaccinations, but you don’t need to wait for your invite to be vaccinated. If you are aged 65 and over, are pregnant, a carer, at increased risk due to a medical condition, a frontline health or social care worker, or live with someone who is immunosuppressed, you can book your appointment or go to one of our walk-in sites now.”
