Lichfield City FC secured another three points with a comprehensive win over Coventry Copsewood.

Gary Birch’s men got off to the perfect start when they were awarded a penalty after Tom Evans was hauled down by the keeper with just three minutes on the clock. Dan McLeod fluffed his lines from the spot, but was alert enough to tap home the rebound.

Andre Francis went close to doubling his side’s lead but was denied by the keeper, who was lucky to still be on the field after his foul for the City penalty.

Louis Downes went close with a free kick early in the second half before Lichfield were given a reminder that Coventry were still in the game as Jon Clough pulled off a good save.

City finally made it 2-0 when Mark Rose netted his 30th of the season.

Sub Liam Holt helped put the result beyond doubt when his build-up play resulted in a Coventry defender slicing the ball over his own keeper.

It was 4-0 when Rose’s effort was saved, only for Evans to tuck home.

Coventry did pull a goal back in injury time, but it couldn’t take the gloss off a fine Lichfield performance.

City return to action on Easter Monday when they entertain Studley, kick-off 3pm.
